Abstract

This study analyzed the pattern of fingerprints in native Panamanian populations to identify a possible dimorphism in the size of the epidermal ridges in the populations studied and thus develop a model for the study of archaeological materials in the region. The sample consisted of 225 individuals, without sex discrimination, ranging in age from 6 to 70 years old.  The results show a certain dimorphism in the average size of the epidermal ridges among the adult population in the Nasos and Bribri, Gnägbe and Buglé ethnic groups. A new paleodermatographic reference model (YDG) is validated for the analysis of archaeological materials in the Colombian Isthmus cultural region.
