Facing the problem of solid waste disposal in the community of Nuevo Chagres, province of Colon, This paper presents the result of interviews to population and local authorities of Nuevo Chagres; the waste problem, its causes, consequences and possible solutions is evaluated. In conclusion, interviewees consider that one of the main waste disposal problem is the absence of an appropriate landfill for disposal of solid community waste so they must perform other activities to eliminate community waste (burning, burial and open dumps) polluting natural resources available; meanwhile, local authorities are aware of the problem of garbage in the community of Nuevo Chagres, however, they lack short, medium and long term proposals to solve the problem.
